Primrose Cafe: My Inspiration….at night…

A lovely friend recently treated the flatmate and I to a delicious meal out as a Thank You for a stay at the Bowingham Residence. Never to turn down a free dinner out I was absolutely delighted to be taken to one of my favourite places – Primrose Cafe, although not as I have previously known it.

By night, the cuteness that is Primrose Cafe transforms itself into a more intimate bistro environment with dimmed lights and candlelit tables. The food is also a more extravagant affair. Sandwiches and cakes are replaced with scallops and venison fillets and such like. Their à la carte menu changes daily and continues their ethos of locally sourced fresh produce that adapts to whatever is in season at the time.

We were however tempted by the Table d’Hote menu – offering 2 courses for £15.95 or 2 courses for £18.95 if you can squeeze in a dessert. After ordering we were treated to an amuse bouche of tasty asparagus soup followed by thick slices of scrummy bread that we had been drooling over since arriving as it sat on the counter.

For my first course I chose the goats cheese salad (what else!?!?) – a round of deliciously oozing goats cheese on a bed of leaves with shallots –  feeding my addiction to this dairy product perfectly.

Two of us then could not resist the braised belly of pork – from Primrose’s own pigs no less. The pork was flavoured with a delicious sweet and sour sauce and sesame seeds which gave it a Chinese style taste. The meat literally melted on your tongue – delicious.

Somehow my flatmate managed to resist this scrummy offering – opting instead for the Dover Sole accompanied by salmon and salmon mousse and to quote “it was excellent!”

As you can see the food was a hit – empty plates all round!

Perfect venue for a cosy date or girly catch up – Primrose Cafe as an evening venue exceeded my expectations!
