Dinewithi – Totterdown Canteen combo

Pop up restaurants are a great way to experience fabulous food in Bristol. One of my personal faves is Dinewithi. With an ethos of: “flavoursome, unfussy, locally sourced food cooked beautifully” you can always be confident that you will be finish the eve full and happy!

Luckily for me, the most recent location to showcase the tasty treats was just round the corner from my new abode – at the Totterdown Canteen. Perfect distance for waddling home after indulging in five hearty courses – elastic waistband is highly recommended.

A BYO event (making it even more value for money) we arrived with bottles of red in hand and feasted our eyes on the menu for the evening. Up first – to help soak up the red – Owl’s sourdough with fluffy garlic and parmesan butter. This is the type of butter you want to smother onto bread, not just spread lightly.

Bread, butter, wine…perfection.

Creamy roasted garlic and Caerphilly cheese crostini came next. For me, you can’t really beat the flavour of roasted garlic, and matched up with cheese this was the perfect pretty and tasty little bite.

My favourite course of the evening – smoked haddock, pollock and saffron chowder. A warming bowl of creamy, fish goodness – perfect for a wintery January night. So much flavour!

The main course was a delicious venison and chocolate stew covering a creamy pile of indulgent white truffle mash. Crispy kale tops (something I had never tried before) gave a bit of crunchy texture to the dish.  So excited was I to try this dish I completely forgot to take a photo.  Fortunately fellow guest James (from The Little Butcher on Wells Road) took this lovely one.

To fill the tiny space left in my stomach, a little pot of rose panna cotta with pistachio brittle completed the delicious evening. Lovely mix of crunch and creaminess.
